Particle Flow Simulation Based on Hybrid IMB-DEM-LBM Approach with New Solid Fraction Calculation Scheme

A new coupling method, immersed moving boundary–discrete element method–lattice Boltzmann method (IMB-DEM-LBM), is proposed to simulate particle flow for application in soil mechanics or coastal engineering. In this study, LBM fluid simulated on the regular Eulerian grid and Lagrangian motion governed by DEM while IMB couples two algorithms. The promising robust as it resolves numerical instability near boundary caused mesh distortion conventional method. IMB, interface lattice solid fraction determines distribution function ratio of non-equilibrium bounce back Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) collision. at results momentum change contributes hydrodynamic force particle. For stability, paper introduces calculation concept from IB (immersed method) same time, proposes a sphere that divides intersection into simple sector triangle, well calculates area vector. With approximate inaccuracy overcome complicated integration avoided.
